Rape-axe is a new female condom developed by a South African woman, Doctor Sonnet Ehlers after she witnessed the horrific aftermath of a rape victim. She is hoping the new female device with jagged barbs will combat rape in the most painful way.

It is unbelievable that in this day and age, women and children still live in fear for their safety. When will the law be on their side?  Why are rape victims made to feel they are in the wrong or at fault? Many societies tend to treat rape victims as the criminal.  The time, it seems, has come to fight back.

The Rape-axe prototype was first launched on 31st August 2005 at Kleinmond, Cape Province, South Africa.  The device consists of a latex sheath containing razor sharp barbs on the inside. It is worn inside the vagina very much like a tampon. In the process of a sexual assault, as the penis enters the vagina the barbs attach themselves to the penis causing considerable pain and discomfort and can only be removed surgically.  The offender cannot pee or walk while the condom is still attached and trying to remove it his self will only result in the grip becoming tighter.  As there is no other way to remove the sheath, there is no escape from arrest as medical staff will automatically alert the authorities.

During the 2010 World Cup, 30,000 of these condoms were  distributed in South Africa which, according to the Human Rights Watch, has the highest rate of rapes in the world and it is believed that 16 percent of the population suffers from HIV.

Doctor Ehlers pointed out how some women in South Africa, in a bid to prevent rape, insert razor blades into their vagina. She believes it is time something is done to help these women who have little or no rights and that it will make some men have a rethink before attempting to sexually assault a woman.

What do you think about this invention? Does it make the vulnerable woman feel more safe or it exposes her to more assaults? kindly leave us your comments below.

It may have a deadly effects but it would sure help put some ‘things’ behind the zip.

  2. treasurekalu says:

@Great. Kindly explain what you mean by deadly effects….. Is it to the rapist or to the assaulted?

  3. Sure will indeed help put things under control, hope it doesn’t affect the female, the product host?

  4. Tamara Albert says:

So it’s either they are castrated or caught α̲̅nd punished. Hahahaha. Very good.

At least, this will serve as a deterrent to all those animalistic humans.

The trauma of being raped by ‘whoever’ is unexplainable so every measure needed τ̲̅o curb α̲̅nd possible stop it is applauded by ♍ε̲̣̣̣̥.

  5. treasurekalu says:

@Tamara. Thanks for your comment. Does this invention actually makes the woman feel safer?

  6. Tamara Albert says:

@Treasure, Hmm… to an extent, YES. I don’t think the condom in itself is safe but the fact that it was invented and even distributed (meaning there is the awareness that it is in use) makes the woman feel safer. Considering that these men who rape women would stop to think twice before doing so for fear of being trapped.

  7. ehjeerho says:

awesome invention…i am sure she was inspired perhaps by personal experience.

This looks good but it may possibly agravate murder.once a rapist is aware he is now a victim, I don’t want to believe he may just run away with a rat trap on his penis, rather he may really hurt the woman since he knows he will be caught anyway.
Secondly,if the woman can incert the condom by herself, the rapist can also take it off.
Thirdly, rapist may still get away by visiting lawless doctors to take it off.however, this is a product of creativity and I give the inventor my thumb.

@Jewel. Thanks for your comments. You observed rightly but we are told that once the rapist is trapped, he can’t even walk properly. So the chances that he will be apprehended is quite high.
We are researching at the moment to know if it’s already made available to the Nigerian market and if our various regulatory bodies have endorsed … More info to come! Thank you

  11. Anonymous says:

So females should wear it @ all times cuz dey are afraid of rapist??

  12. I think this is a great way to trap rapist world wide.I was raped at 16 …My rapist went to jail…But the rapist didn’t feel anypain for the pain caused. Just depriv ed of life and liberty.
